ASUU Strike: Wike Meets VCs Behind Closed Doors

Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, on Monday met with Vice-Chancellors of the nation’s universities behind closed doors in Abuja. The meeting, which took place at the National Universities Commission, ended around 7pm.

In his brief opening remarks, the minister said the meeting was called to strengthen the harmonious working relationship with the VCs and not for public consumption. He thereafter asked journalists to leave the meeting venue.
Although none of the parties spoke with journalists after the meeting, it was learnt that the meeting looked into the issues surrounding the four-month-old strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

The source said, “It is true we spoke about the ASUU matter. We are all stakeholders in the project.”
The minister is expected to hold a meeting with the striking lecturers in Abuja on Tuesday(today).
