Dinosaurs Could Be Brought Back To Life Using Bird DNA, Experts...

Dinosaurs could be brought back to life…using the DNA of birds. In an echo of Jurassic Park, experts believe identifying and altering certain genes found in the DNA of modern birds would
mean genomes of the prehistoric creatures could be engineered 20 million years after they died out.

Oxford biochemist Dr Alison Woollard says it would be theoretically possible to recreate species through the DNA. A mosquito was recently discovered which had the blood of
another animal in its stomach dating back 46 million years.

Dr Woollard said: “We know that birds are the direct descendants of dinosaurs, as proven by an unbroken line of fossils which tracks the evolution of the lineage from creatures such as the velociraptor or T-Rex through to the birds flying around today.

“The most famous of these is the Archaeopteryx, a fossil which clearly shows the transition between feathered dinosaurs and modern birds. “This evolution implies that buried deep within the DNA of today’s birds are switched-off genes that control dinosaur-like traits. “Could we ‘rewind’ evolution by switching these genes back on and using them to guide the development of that bird’s offspring, and its offspring’s offspring, backwards?”
All animals and plants are related, sharing a common ancestor that lived about 1.6 billion years ago. To make a full genome, scientists would have to combine millions of short fragments of nucleic acids in exactly the right
order, just like putting together an enormous jigsaw puzzle.

Why I Married Him Despite The Fact He Is Younger Than Me - Lola Omotayo Okoye

Peter Okoye of P’Square and Lola Omotayo’s love story is compelling and amazing. The couple have been in a relationship for over eight years before they finally tied the knot on Sunday, November 17, 2013.

There has been a lot of talk and whispers about their marriage, the family issues and the fact that Lola is by far older than Peter Okoye has been trending. But why did she decide to marry someone who’s her junior?

Below is Lola Omotayo’s stand on their age difference…
Lola, who was a Business Development Director at FKG2m a marketing agency in Lagos, had told the story of how she and
Peter met and how the relationship started:

“My agency handles some of British American Tobacco brands and P’Square was doing a show for us at one of our events in Enugu. Though I had met Peter a couple of times before then, at the show there was some chemistry. He asked for my number and I refused giving it to him. I told him ‘if you really want to know me, you have to find my number’. So he took it as a task and found my number and the rest is history.”

Lola, said to be in her 30s then and Peter in his 20s, was not disturbed by the age difference.

Her reason:

“Like I said, Peter is an old soul and he always tells me that I’m like a 23-year-old. Age is just a number. Right now, you can see it around the world. Demi Moore, Usher and some known people. Even in Nigeria here, they are dating people far older than their age. So, we shouldn’t base it on the age factor. He doesn’t make me feel like he’s younger than me.”

Hmmmn, is age really just a number in marriage, especially in Nigeria?

5-yr-old Girl Burnt To Death In Bayelsa.

According to saturday Vanguard news, the sleepy riverside settlement of Ogbogoro in the outskirts of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital was Thursday night thrown into mourning following the burning to death of a five year old girl in an inferno.

The deceased child, simply identified as Princess, eyewitnesses told Saturday Vanguard, was a daughter of a policeman
attached to the Osiama Division of the State Police Command in Southern Ijaw local government area of the state. It was gathered that the inferno which occurred at about 7.30pm was caused by a burning candle.

light in solving her school homework. She was said to have left the candle burning and went out to get some foodstuff for her siblings.

”While she was away, the candle fell and set ablaze the fabrics on the floor of the room. The deceased and her 7-year old brother, Henry, were in the room but attempt by the latter to wake the sister proved abortive,” the source said.

ASUU Warns FG Against Forced Re-opening Of Universities

According to Vanguard news, AS the strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities enters the fourth month, the union has flayed alleged plans by the Federal Government to forcefully order the re-opening
of the universities today, saying this will only complicate the situation.

Chairperson of the Uniport chapter of ASUU, Professor Anthonia Okerengwo, urged the Federal Government to toe the path of honour
in its effort towards resolving the lingering strike.

His University of Benin counterpart, Dr Anthony Money-Emina, described as laughable, reports that President Goodluck Jonathan will order the union members to go back to work today.

Similarly, ASUU, University of Ibadan chapter, through its Secretary, Dr Ayodeji Omole, said such a report would further dent the image of the government as anti-democratic, cautioning President Jonathan to allow a sleeping dog lie by implementing the 2009 ASUU/FGN agreement which the Federal Government had already signed. ASUU vowed that it would not be intimidated into going back to the classroom, “unless our demands are met by the Federal Government.”

ASUU Uniben said that the solution to the current industrial action embarked upon by members was for the Federal Government to
come up with a clear agenda on how to implement the 2009 agreement and the Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, entered
with the union in 2012. Describing as laughable, reports that government will order the union members to go back to work, ASUU urged government to shun “authoritarian approaches to resolving issues in dispute with
the union.”

Money-Emina said, “The attention of our union has been drawn to news report in the media, alleging that the President will direct the
re-opening of Nigerian universities with or without ASUU from Monday.” Professor Okerengwo in a statement said: “Arm twisting has never worked as a dispute resolution strategy. It is unacceptable to the union that while the President has invited the union leadership for a dialogue, some overzealous assistants to the president are clandestinely working to jeopardise the process. The surest and shortest route to industrial harmony in the university system and the fastest approach to revitalising university education is the implementation of 2009 agreement and the 2012 MOU,” the union said.

UI-ASUU, while welcoming an invitation to ASUU for a meeting today, warned that it would be unacceptable to its members if
government failed to come out with a clear agenda for implementing the 2009 agreement.
It said “The attention of our union is drawn to news reports in the media alleging that President Goodluck Jonathan will direct the re opening of all Nigerian universities with or without ASUU.
“We wish to state that while the President had issued an invitation to the leaders of our union for dialogue, it will be unacceptable to our members if government fails to come out with a clear agenda for implementing the 2009 agreement.
“Authoritarian posturing has never solved and will not solve the impasse. We are calling on Mr President to tow the path of honour and respect the 2009 Agreement.”

It sounded a note of warning that “Any proposal not based on a clear acceptance of a framework for implementing the 2009
agreement will, instead, seek to impose a solution regarding the impasse, and will not be a solution to the present crisis.”

Omole said it was laughable that a government which had earlier claimed to have released N100billion has not, in actual fact released even a kobo. He said ASUU as a body of intellectuals, which is ready to pursue the revatilisation of public education in Nigeria will purse same to its logical conclusion even with the stoppage of salaries.

Delta State Speaker Escapes Assassination

Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei

The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, yesterday, at Obomkpa in Aniocha North Local Government
Area of Delta State, emerged unhurt after an assassination attempt. However, locally made canon contraptions, which triggered the
explosion, critically injured a female aide to one of the Speaker’s associates.

Ochei, on a routine familiarisation and thank-you tour of his Aniocha North Constituency, had barely finished exchanging pleasantries
with his supporters at the Eke Market square venue, when a loud explosion and its attendant smoke threw the crowd into
pandemonium.

According to an eye-witness, the Speaker had not taken his seat immediately on arrival, as he was busy exchanging greetings when the canon, ignited and propelled from the rear on trajectory to his seat on the front row, was inhibited by chairs which, even though were shattered, provided some cushioning effect.
It was also gathered that the explosives were wrapped in white satin materials, which made detection impossible, as the chairs and tables were also decorated in white materials.

The victim, whose left ankle was badly injured, was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, but referred to the Delta State University Teaching Hospital Oghara for further medical attention. She was said to be in stable condition just as doctors
were battling to avert amputation.

Graphic Pics Of Anambra Church Stampede: 28 Died, 200 Wounded... Viewers discretion advised

Punch Report:

About 28 people lost their lives today Nov 2nd during a stampede at the Holy Ghost Adoration Ground, Uke, Idemili North LGA of Anambra State (The Adoration ground after the stampede above

More than 100,000 people were said to be gathered at the venue of the incident, with facilities that can hardly take 5,000 people, when the stampede occurred. The tragic incident has already become political, as the camps of Governor Peter Obi and Senator Chris Ngige are trading blame over the incident. About 200 victims that survived the stampede were taken hospitals in Onitsha and Nkpor where a lot of them were treated and discharged.

The incident occurred shortly after Governor Peter Obi, the governorship candidate for the All progressives Grand Alliance, Chief Willie Obiano; and the National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, among others left the place after an all-night church programme.

Obi, who later on visited hospitals, where the survivors of the stampede were being attended to, promised to set up a panel to investigate the cause of the stampede. The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Emeka
Chukwuemeka , confirmed the incident but said he could not give figures or state the cause of the incident because investigations were still going on to establish the cause of the incident.

The Founder and Spiritual Director of the Holy Ghost Adoration Centre, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obinma, a Catholic priest popularly called Ebube Mmuonso (the glory of the Holy Ghost), also went round to see and pray for the survivors. He, however, said he was still too shocked to comment on the incident...see more pics after the cut. Viewers discretion advised

Davido Speaks On How He Plans To Quit Music At 30

He granted an interview with punch where he said this and more. Wizkid is not a threat to him, Skelewu is already big and some people are just starting out at 30 but he is already a success and threat at 20.

“Wizkid is not a rival. I see nobody as competition or threat. God is behind me, so I just go into the studio, do my music and everything is fine. I develop and write most of my songs in the studio. I’m not afraid of competition or the fact that some person will just appear on the scene and take the shine After all, I did it to some people, so I expect that it is something that must happen to everyone because you can’t be shining forever. But once you are good to others, make good music, have loyal fans, that’s all that matters. Continue below....

I have plans to go into oil and gas business with my elder brother next year. I want to do music for 10 years. By that time, I will be 30,
and free to rest. Some people are just starting out at 30 but I am already a success and threat at 20. Fame at a young age is a plus because I still have like 10 years to ball while some people are just starting at 27 and 30.”

On Skelewu

“The song is big already; so whatever we do people are still going to talk anyway. I shot the video like a movie and there are three videos, so people can watch whichever one they want.If you don’t like the instructional video, you can watch Sesan’s, if you don’t like that one; you can watch Moe Musa’s. If people want, I will shoot one more video, it’s not easy.”

On his Dad

"Yes my father is rich, but the truth is some people only knew who he was after I released my song, ‘Omo Baba Olowo’. I want people to know that the song was not a hit because of my father but because it was dope. I didn’t sing ‘OBO’ because of my father’s wealth – contrary to what people think. My father and family always keep me grounded. They call me from time to time to ask about my welfare. My father actually visits all these blogs to read and see all my nonsense. Just like the typical Yoruba father, he scolds me and whenever he does that, I will say, ‘Daddy cool down, what’s going on, relax.’ Although he is also very proud of me, he is scared and happy for me at the same time.”
