Photo: HIV+ Woman Steals Neighbour's Baby And Starts Breastfeeding Her

Geezz! Pure wickedness of the highest order. This devilish act really baffles me. A 39-year-old Zimbabwean woman, Annie Mpariwa who is HIV positive has been arrested for breastfeeding a neighbour’s baby without her consent The case which is already in court has been set for further hearing on the 24th of October for an HIV test to be performed on the toddler.

She was arrested last 2 weeks on charges of common nuisance and should the child test positive; the charge will be raised to “deliberately infecting another person with HIV”.
The mother of the 14-month-old baby said seeing her child being breastfed by her neighbour was traumatising. According to her, the neighbour snatched the child while she
was playing outside and hid her in her room. But after searching for the child for quite some time, she went an knocked on Annie’s rented room and got no response. Upon peeping through the window, she saw her breastfeeding the little girl.

I was shocked. I nearly fainted,” she said, adding that he breasts were leaking milk yet she was not a nursing mother or pregnant.

ASUU STRIKE: Universities May Reopen Next week(Compulsorily)

Source Scan-news:

Universities may re-open next week Scan-News can authoritatively reveal that in a last ditch effort to resolve the ASUU strike, President Goodluck Jonathan will on Monday, November 4, meet with the leadership of ASUU at the Presidential Villa. This was part of the resolutions of the meeting between the ASUU leadership, Vice President Namadi Sambo and the Supervising Minister of Education on Tuesday as was first reported by this medium.

An official of the Vice President’s office who pleaded anonymity told Scan News that all hands are now on deck to ensure that the universities resume next week.
The official stated that the Vice President and the Supervising Minister of Education have made head-way in resolving the strike, but the final involvement of the President is to show ASUU that there is the commitment of the Federal Government at the highest level.

It was learnt that the President has been fully briefed on steps taken by Vice President Namadi Sambo and the Supervising Minister of Education to get to this point. It was learnt that the President will at next Monday’s meeting present to the ASUU leadership the administration’s last concession for them to call off the prolonged strike.

A source at the Presidential Villa noted that if ASUU fails to call off, the Federal Government will then resort to plan B, which will be to compulsorily open the universities, using the
instrumentality of the governing councils and the school managements. Already, most of the governing councils of the universities have
started meeting to work out modalities for the compulsory re- opening of the universities should ASUU fail to honour the personal request of President Jonathan.

Scan News gathered that the Supervising Minister of Education, Barr. Nyesom Wike and the Vice Chancellors of Public Universities also discussed the re-opening of the schools last
Monday. Most of the Vice Chancellors suggested the compulsory re-opening of the schools, should the last ditch efforts fail. It was gathered that security report available to the Presidency may have necessitated this line of action to salvage the universities system from the direction it is facing at present.

Are you in support of this new strategy by FG??? Air your views...

BASA: Jonathan Succumbs, Stops Stella Oduah

The problems facing aviation minister Stella Oduah multiplied yesterday when President Goodluck Jonathan bowed to pressure and barred her from signing the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) with Israel. Oduah is still trying to explain how and why she
authorised the purchase or lease of two armoured cars at the cost of N255million. Public outcry has continued to trail the acquisition of the cars.

The BASA is the culmination of negotiations between Nigeria and Israel aviation officials for about a year now and was one of the highlights of President Jonathan activities in Israel where he is on pilgrimage. While the acting foreign affairs minister of Nigeria,
Prof. Viola Onwuliri, signed for Nigeria, the deputy foreign minister of Israel, Mr Zeev Elkin, did same for his country.

The development is contrary to a statement issued by Mr Joe Obi, special assistant (media) to the aviation minister, just before Oduah departed Nigeria for Israel. He said that the minister was going to sign the BASA on behalf of Nigeria. The statement was made available to journalists on October 22. It read:

“Nigeria and the State of Israel will today (23rd October, 2013) sign Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) to enable airlines from both countries fly directly to each other’s territory withoutstop-overs in other destinations.
“Aviation Minister Princess Stella Oduah will sign on behalf of Nigeria while her Israeli counterpart will sign for his country. Oduah left Abuja this morning to the State of Israel for the event.”

Also, the two pictures sent in from Israel by Mr Yakubu Datti, spokesperson for aviation parastatals, showed only Onwuliri and not Oduah signing the agreement.

Man Colludes With Concubine To Kidnap Son

Operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS), Lagos State Command have arrested a 48-year-old man for allegedly colluding with his concubine to kidnap his 9-year-old son.
The suspect, Samson Adeyinka Adebayo and his lover, Taiwo Alonge paraded before newsmen at the service’s Shangisha office, Magodo, Ikosi, Lagos by the DSS Director, Mr Victor Olaye, yesterday, were said to have been in need of money to enjoy themselves so decided to kidnap the boy and place a ransom of N350,000 on him.

Briefing newsmen, Olaye disclosed that his command received a report from the complainant later turned prime suspect, Samson Adebayo on October 7, 2013 that
his son, Emmanuel Adebayo was kidnapped from his home, No. 2, Solomon Street, Ilu-Nla, Aradagun, in Badagry local government area of Lagos State.
He said his command swung into action and
preliminary probe confirmed that the kidnap of the boy was masterminded by one Mrs Kehinde Alonge, who had demanded for a ransom of N350, 000 for the release of the boy. Olaye said the syndicates also demanded that the money be paid into a United Bank of
Africa (UBA) account number, which was later traced to one Taiwo Faloye.

He said the plan of the couple was for their friends and church members where Adebayo worships to sympathise with him and give him some cash and the plan worked out as unsuspecting sympathisers had raised N230,000 for him before the bubble burst.

Cockroach Farms Booming In China

Gross!!! I almost vomited when I read the story. Chinese people can be surprising I must say. Cockroach farming is booming in China as the country looks for new, cheaper medicines for its rapidly ageing population, says Malcolm Moore.
The correct way to eat a cockroach , at least in this corner of northern China, is to fry it not once but twice in a wok of smoking hot oil. The cockroach, whose innards resemble cottage cheese, has an earthy taste, with a slight twinge of ammonia. But they have become popular in China not for their taste, but for their medicinal benefits.

“They really are a miracle drug,” said Liu Yusheng, a professor at the Shandong Agricultural university and the head of
Shandong province’s Insect Association. “They can cure a number of ailments and they work much faster than other medicine.”

For a decade, Mr Wang farmed another type of insect, Eupolyphaga Sinensis, which is also used in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
But in the past two years, the demand for cockroaches has soared, and Mr Wang has switched his entire production to Periplaneta americana, or the American cockroach, a copper- coloured insect that grows to just over an inch and a half.

Singer Chris Brown Arrested In D.C. On Felony Assault Charge

R&B singer Chris Brown was arrested early Sunday outside a Washington hotel and charged with felony assault, a D.C. police spokesman said. Brown and another man, Christopher Hollosy, were allegedly involved in a “physical altercation” with an unidentified man just before 4:30 a.m. in front of the Washington Hotel in the 500 block of 15th Street NW, according to a police department spokesman, Officer Anthony Clay.

The singer, 24, and Hollosy, 35, were taken into custody, Clay said. The alleged victim in the altercation was taken to a nearby hospital and released. Police said there were no weapons involved but could not immediately provide information about the circumstances of the altercation, which was first reported by the Web site TMZ.

Brown and Hollosy are expected to remain in custody pending a court appearance Monday, according to D.C. Police spokesman Paul Metcalf. Brown was scheduled to host a party at the Park on 14th, one of several nightclub events in town this weekend capitalizing
on the crowds drawn to Howard University’s homecoming, though officially unaffiliated with the school. Marc Barnes, owner of the establishment in Northwest Washington, said
Brown hosted a party at the club and left around 2:30 a.m.

“Everything was fine when he was here,” Barnes said. Brown is on probation after pleading guilty in 2009 to attacking his then-girlfriend Rihanna on the night before the Grammy Awards. He was sentenced to community service and five years of probation. Since then he has had several run-ins with law enforcement officials.

Scientists Find Gold Growing On Trees In Australia

It’s true – money does not grow on trees. But gold does, at least according to a group of scientists who have confirmed the presence of the mineral in the leaves of some plants.

Australia based researchers found the gold particles hidden within eucalyptus tree foliage, indicating that gold deposits may also be buried many metres below. Geochemists from Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and
Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRPO) said eucalyptus trees in western Australia are drawing up gold particles from the earth via their root system and depositing it in their leaves and branches.

Although the amounts found were tiny, their presence could indicate gold ore deposits buried up to tens of metres underground and under sediments that are up to 60 million
years old.

Lead author of the study, Dr Mel Lintern, said the team used CSIRO’s Maia detector, a machine that uses x-rays to probe matter in great detail, to search for gold deposits. They were able to produce images of gold found in the leaves, bark and twigs of some of the trees.
Their research, published in the journal Nature Communications, suggested plants were absorbing gold particles found around the soils of eucalyptus trees, Dr Lintern explained.

“The eucalypt acts as a hydraulic pump – its roots extend tens of metres into the ground and draw up water containing the gold.”

“As the gold is likely to be toxic to the plant, it’s moved to the leaves and branches where it can be released or shed to the ground.”

“The leaves could be used in combination with other tools as a more cost effective and environmentally friendly exploration technique.”

Dr Lintern added that by using this technique of sampling and analysing vegetation for traces of minerals, it may be easier to
observe what occurs below the surface without the need to drill.
He said: “It’s a more targeted way of searching for minerals that reduces costs and impact on the environment.”
Now before you grab your passport and axe, the paper found an average gold concentration of 80 parts per billion in tree’s leaves, and a mere 4 parts per billion in bark (though bark
does cover a larger surface area).

Unfortunately, this means the gold isn’t visible to the unclad eye. So the next time someone tells you money doesn’t grow on trees, well, you know what to say.

We do not know exactly why Bruce was not invited -- whether it was because of Kanye or because of Bruce’s separation from Kris. We do know however, Bruce didn’t even know Kanye was popping the question until he got a call from Kim immediately after she got engaged. It was also reported that Bruce was Kim’s first call, because Kim considers him to be her father.

Tanker Explosion Kills 6 in Kaduna

According to Vanguard news – Six persons were killed on Friday night in a fire from a
tanker explosion in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that FERMA had constructed a trailer park at the Maraban Jos axis of the Kaduna- Zaria expressway to reduce the high rate of fires caused by petrol tankers and accidents caused by articulated trucks parked along the road.

Alhaji Abdullahi Kwarau, the Chairman of Igabi Local Government Council, said that the accident, which occurred on Friday night,
involved two fuel-laden tankers. He appealed to the state government to expedite action on the construction of more trailer parks on major roads in the state to avoid a recurrence of such accidents.

Gov. Mukhtar Yero of Kaduna State, who condoled with the families of those who died in the accident, urged drivers, particularly those of petrol tankers, to be extra vigilant while driving or parking their vehicles. He assured the people that efforts were underway to ensure the timely completion of new trailer parks being constructed in Igabi, Kagarko and Birnin Gwari Local Government Areas.

Yero said that the state government was also collaborating with the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to ensure the speedy completion of ongoing road projects to forestall recurring accidents on the major roads.

Court Awards $15m Ibori Bribe Money To FG

The legal battle over the controversial $15m Ibori bribe money ended on Friday as an Abuja Federal High Court ordered that the
amount should be forfeited to the Federal Government. This followed the court’s rejection of the claim made by Delta State
Government.

The court, presided over by Justice Gabriel Kolawole, held that Delta State was not able to prove its claim that the money belonged to it.
The $15m was said to have been received by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission from an undisclosed agent of the
former Delta State Governor, James Ibori in 2007 as a bribe to compromise its investigation into his financial dealings, while in office from 1999 to 2007.
The money has been kept with the Central Bank of Nigeria as an unclaimed property since August 2007, but a legal battle ensued over its ownership, after the court had on July 24, 2012, granted an interim order forfeiting the cash to the Federal Government.
While the Federal Government, through the EFCC lawyer, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), asked the court for a final order of forfeiture so that
the money could be deposited in the national treasury, Delta State filed an application, claiming that the money belonged to it.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government said it would keep the money in a consolidated revenue fund to be used for the wellbeing of
Nigerians while the state government expressed a wish to use it to provide infrastructure in the state. The Federal Government’s main argument against the claim made by Delta State was that the state government had washed its hands off the $15m when it resisted investigations into corruption allegations against Ibori by deposing to an affidavit stating that it
had not lost any money.

The Federal Government stressed that the then Attorney-General of Delta State had filed an action against the EFCC and the Attorney-
General of the Federation, stating that the state government’s account should not be investigated in line with the anti-graft agencies investigations into allegations of financial impropriety leveled against Ibori. And in his judgement on Friday, Justice Kolawole agreed with the Federal Government.
He equally held that Ibori had earlier denied reports that the $15m cash emanated from him, a development which undermined Delta
State’s claim that the money was from its coffers.

Delta State’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Charles Ajuyah (SAN), who was the state’s counsel, had told the court to take a cue from previous instances when money recovered from two other governors – Joshua Dariye of Plateau State and
Dipreye Alamiesiegha of Bayelsa State – were returned to the states.

Senate Justifies N150 Billion Annual Budget For NASS

THE Senate has defended the N150 billion annual budget of the National Assembly which represents three percent of the nation’s
annual budget of N4.8 trillion, saying the amount for the nation’s apex legislative body was not out of place. It explained that the said amount was for all staff of the National
Assembly, the Legislative Institute, National Assembly Service Commission as well as capital projects, contrary to public insinuation that the amount was only for the national legislators.

This explanation came against the public outcry that the ‘jumbo pay’ to the legislature alone was affecting the resources of the country. Meantime, the National Assembly has unveiled the logo for the 1st African Legislative Summit, 2013 which is expected to bring together participants from many countries around the world, particularly Africa including officials at the executive branch of government within the continent.

The National Assembly through the National Institute for Legislative Studies, NILS, would be hosting the Summit from November 10-13,
2013. The summit is expected to provide an avenue for legislators and stakeholders across the continent to deliberate on current issues
and developments relating to the effective functioning of African parliaments, national economies and democratic governance.

President of the Summit and Nigeria Senate Leader Victor Ndoma- Egba at the ceremony of the unveiling of the logo exonerated the National Assembly from alleged national waste. Ndoma-Egba while answering questions from journalists that the nation’s federal legislature had become expensive, said NASS
annual budget of N150 billion cannot be held responsible for the wastage.

According to him, the N150 billion, which represents three per cent of the annual national budget, was infinitesimal to the remaining 97 per cent of the total budget of the country. He said, contrary to the general impression, the N150 budget was not meant for the salary and allowances of the legislators alone but included that of other institutions within the National Assembly. The institutions, he disclosed, included the staff of the National
Assembly Service Commission, the staff and management of the National Institute for Legislative Studies (NILS) and legislative aides
of the lawmakers as well as that of the medical staff attached to the National Assembly.

Senate President David Mark who unveiled the logo corroborated th Senate Leader as he said under-staffing was one of the problems hampering effective and efficient legislative business in the National Assembly. In his speech at the event, he said emerging legislatures were under significant stresses which were becoming hindrances to efforts to
exercise greater influence over government policies and hampering an effective performance of their oversight responsibilities. He said these included “contextual issues such as underdevelopment, executive interference in some cases and also
staff and resources deficit as managers and staff of parliaments struggle to meet the growing demands placed on them.”

Boy, 3, Dies While Hugging Electrocuted Mum

I was in tears the first time I read this story. But why the 3-yr-old? has been my question. News from Punching.com has it that on Wednesday, October 16, a day after Muslim folks celebrated Sallah, tragedy struck at Oniwaya Junction, Agege, Lagos, as a high
tension cable electrocuted four people in the area.
A woman, identified as Mrs. Oluwajedalo but popularly called Iya Fathia, survived the electrocution but lost his three-year-old son,
Ayomide, who ran towards her and embraced her as electric shock overtook her.

The incident was still a hot topic of discussion when Saturday PUNCH visited the area on Tuesday as some people were seen discussing it in the front of house Number 88, Oniwaya Road, where the incident occurred. There is a transformer located at Oniwaya Junction. House no 88 is just two houses away from the transformer.

A resident of the house, Mr. James Eboh, promptly pointed to a paper on a wall, a poster of the four victims of the electrocution Ayomide Oluwajedalo (3), Sunday Hisaun (25), Samson Akinrinsoye (25) and Matthew (37).
Eboh shook his head and said the three-year-old victim should not have died.
He said, “The incident occurred around 8pm. There was a spark on the transformer over there. As we heard the spark, everybody scampered for safety because it had happened before.

“A cable detached from the transformer as the spark went off. It fell on this shop here (in the front of No 88). Iya Fathia moved towards the shop to warn the shop owner, who was inside at the time. But she stepped on a metal on which the shop was built.
“As the electric shock went through her body, she was shaking violently. Ayomide who sighted her mother at the entrance of the
house, ran towards her and embraced her. He died on the spot. But his mother survived.
“I am the closest friend of Iya Fathia (Ayomide’s mother) in this house. I was one of those who took her to a hospital in Egbeda. It is
just sad because the woman is not sane at the moment.”

Asked how Mrs. Oluwajedalo could be located, Eboh said her family had requested for her discharge at the hospital in Egbeda where she
was undergoing treatment and taken her to Ijebu-Ode.
“The woman was still in shock and she did not seem to be improving. The family had spent a lot on her treatment. They decided to move her to Ijebu-Ode because the cost was becoming
unbearable for them. The last time I spoke with her in Egbeda, she was not sounding normal. She was only saying, ‘My son is not
dead! My son is okay! My son is not dead,” Eboh said.

He explained that the young victim had been buried at the Jafojo Cemetery.
Abiola Oladimeji, who was in his shop when the high tension cable fell on it, said he survived by divine grace.
“I was told Iya Fathia was coming to alert us when she was electrocuted. It is just unfortunate,” he said.
It was a wonder that Oladimeji was not electrocuted because his shop on which the cable fell is a moveable metal container.
“I was lucky because there were wooden panels inside the shop. If not because of that, I would not be standing here talking to you today,” the young man said.

Mom Sold 12 Daughters Virginity

Unbelievable! Why are some mothers heartless when it comes to money issues??? A mother of 14 in Colombia tried to make ends meet, police say, by pushing her daughters into “hell” and selling their virginity for a couple hundred dollars.

Margarita de Jesus Zapata Moreno, 45, was arrested this week together with a 51-year-old contractor who police believe impregnated one of the young daughters. She broke down in tears when she stood in front of the cameras
after being arrested in Bogota, the Colombian capital. The Bogota Metropolitan Police say Zapata sold the virginity of 12 daughters to
much older men seeking to have sex with young virgins.

Authorities also say the suspect would begin selling her daughters to men as soon as the girls turned 12 years old. She charged anywhere between 300,000 and 400,000 Colombian Pesos ($160 to $212) for a virgin.
But Zapata strongly denies the accusation. Colombian authorities often show high-profile suspects to the media shortly after arresting
them. When Zapata was standing in front of the cameras Wednesday, one of the reporters shouted a question to her: “Did you prostitute your daughters?” She answered: “No, my darling.”

Colombian police say they learned of this alleged case of abuse because one of the alleged victims stepped forward. Authorities say one of the suspect’s daughters forced into prostitution gave birth to a baby boy when she was 14. She had refused her mother’s orders
to have an abortion.

Abuja – The President, National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Dr Jibril Abdullahi, said on Friday the nationwide strike by the association was suspended in the public interest. Abdullahi said this in an interview with Journalists in Abuja on Friday.
The association suspended its more than three-week long strike, which started on Oct. 1, after its National Executive Council meeting in Abuja on Thursday.

He said that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the suspension of the strike was signed at the meeting between the leadership of the association and representatives of the Federal Government and labour.

“Our last discussion was on Monday Oct. 21; that was exactly three weeks after the start of the strike.
“The government made some concessions, although they did not meet the target of our members.
“We felt in the interest of what is happening in the country, namely: the outbreak of cholera in Lagos and Gusau; the outbreak of Lassa
fever in Abakaliki, it was high time we soft-pedaled and allowed dialogue to continue, hoping that the government will play its own
role in ensuring our agreement is implemented.

“The President and Commander-In-Chief has already mandated the Minister of Health and Minister of Finance to work together in resolving this impasse. “We felt the commitment of the President is good enough for us to tell our members in the interest of the country, the health of our
people, we should soft pedal and resume our duties.“

Abdullahi said that the Federal Government constituted a task force to ensure the immediate payment of the funds released for the settlement of salary arrears owed its members in 15 hospitals across the country.
He added that an inter-ministerial committee on residency training would also be constituted to work toward a comprehensive
residency training framework for the country.
Abdullahi called on patriotic Nigerians to take up the issue of residency training as a matter of national discourse which would help in transforming the health sector collectively.

He said: “Residency training is not only in our interest but first of all in the interest of the whole nation. “So, we can ensure our country attains the level of expertise whereby we will end this waste of foreign exchange in the pursuit of medical tourism abroad.’’

The association went on strike over the non-payment of salary arrears of some doctors for over four months under the Integrated
Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) arrangement. Other issues were the training and retraining of resident doctors and
the implementation of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) at the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital.

Fatherhood Has Been Awesome & Made Me Humble- Terry G

Gabriel Oche-Amanyi, popularly known as Terry G who is known for his weird style has taken up a new character. It is normal for an artiste to rebrand at some point in his or her career. For the once self acclaimed Gingah Master, Terry G, real name Oche Amanyi, that time is now.
After serenading fans and flooding the Nigerian music scene with his weird and wild persona, addictive auto-tune laced hits
like ‘Testing Microphone’ and ‘Free Madness’, the singer, producer and music video director is carving out a new image for himself.
Apart from the fact that he now wishes to be referred to as Honourable Terry G , the Chaante Chante singer now possesses a calmer mien, which is evident in his response and disposition to questions posed to him by this correspondent.

For the 27-year-old singer, who has a son from his lover, Mimi Omoregbe, late last year, it is safe to say that becoming a father for the first time has given him a different outlook of life.

“Having a kid has a lot to do with it. Sometimes you see life in a different way. You perceive it in another way another time. When I had a kid, I saw so much value in my life and the
future. I became humbled and developed the mindset that anything that has to do with my future must automatically involve my son as well. I started changing a lot of things and it
actually scared a lot of negative friends from me. It helped me resolve and re-organise myself again".

“In the past, some children appeared scared to come close to me, but all that has changed. Fatherhood has been awesome, amazing and a miracle to me. My son is my replica” he said.

Shutting critics who often accuse him of singing ‘meaningless songs that sell nonetheless’, the Benue-State born artiste
includes a love song titled ‘Love Affair’ in his recently released fourth album, Book of Ginger.

Teenage Driver Crushes Toddler in Lagos

When three-year-old Ikeoluwa Olaniyi was playing with her friends in her grandfather’s compound in Ire Akari Estate, Isolo, Lagos, on
September 3, 2013, little did she know that death was lurking.
The teenage motorist, Chinyere Wagbaranta,
in company with her brother, Chisom, and a police corporal attached to Police Mobile Force 22, Felix Adebayo, in a Mercedes Benz Sports Utility Vehicle, drove into the compound carelessly, hitting the little girl and crushing her skull.

The victim’s grandfather, Adesola Elegbede, who spoke to our correspondent while fighting back tears, said Ikeoluwa was his first
grandchild. He said, “Ikeoluwa lives with me and my wife. Her father works in a bank and her mother works with an accounting firm, which are both located on Victoria Island. Ikeoluwa attends a school in Ilasa, which
is not far from our house. She stays with her parents during the weekend.

“On the day of the incident, I came in and saw her eating yam just outside the main door and told her to go inside. A few minutes later,
I wanted to go to my friend who lives a few houses away from mine and Ikeoluwa attempted to follow me but she met some of her friends playing in the compound so she joined them.
“A few minutes later, I heard a loud scream that Ikeoluwa had been crushed by a vehicle in the compound. I ran to the scene and observed that the side of her head had been crushed. I saw the vehicle that hit her but the occupants had fled. I carried my granddaughter to Good Health Hospital, where she was declared
dead.”
Elegbede said he immediately ran to the Isolo Police Division to report the matter and it was there that he met the culprits. He said Chinyere drove recklessly into the compound because she was on a mission to fight one of his neighbours.
He said, “I was told that Chinyere and her brother hired the Police Mobile Force member, who is attached to a bank in the area, to
escort them to our compound to fight one of my neighbour’s children.

“They drove recklessly from Ire Akari Road into my compound and after crushing my little girl, the armed MOPOL aided them in escaping from the scene.”
The grandfather said four days after the incident, Chinyere’s parents, in company with the Divisional Police Officer, Isolo, Adamu Ibrahim, and a chief in the area came to apologise over the incident, urging him not to pursue the case.

Elegbede, however, berated the police for not handling the case professionally. He said, “When they came to visit me four days later, I was shocked that the DPO escorted them to my place. Why should the DPO be pleading on their behalf, telling me it was the will of God? Anyway, I told them to go and beg Ikeoluwa’s parents because I am not her father.

“On September 9, the DPO called me again saying the Area D Commander at Mushin wanted to see all the parties involved but on
getting there, the DPO told us to return to his own station.
“When I noticed that the case was not being handled properly, I asked the DPO to transfer the matter to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, but he refused to do this.
“I am aware that Chinyere is 18 years old and is an adult. I have already started hearing that the police want to manipulate her age, get her a fake affidavit and give her a soft-landing. I will not accept this.”

The victim’s grandfather said life had not been the same since the incident occurred. While pointing to the spot where his granddaughter’s blood was shed, he said, “I cannot believe this. We are still in shock. Her mother has had to take leave from work and travel out of the
country to take her mind off things. Imagine us losing such a pleasant and brilliant girl?”

When contacted on the telephone, the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Police Command, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the accident. Braide said the matter was reported as a fatal car accident and that Chinyere had been charged to court.

Boy carrying toy gun shot dead by police

A 13-year-old boy carrying a replica assault rifle has been shot dead by police in the US state of California, the BBC reports.
Officers in the city of Santa Rosa say they opened fire after the boy refused orders to drop the rifle, which they believed to be real.
The shooting on Tuesday is now being investigated.

It comes a day after a 12-year-old boy in Nevada shot dead a maths teacher at his school and wounded two fellow pupils before taking his own life.

In the latest incident, two sheriff’s deputies saw the teenager “with what appeared to be some type of rifle”, a news release from the
Sonoma County Sheriff’s office said. The deputies called for backup and repeatedly ordered the boy to drop the gun before firing several rounds from their handguns, police
said. The boy, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was later identified by his family as Andy Lopez.
“He was holding the weapon in his left hand. He began to turn toward his right in the direction of the deputy, and in so doing he
moved the gun toward the deputy, and the deputy’s mindset was that he was fearful he would be shot,” Lt Paul Henry of Santa Rosa
police said.

But the boy’s father, Rodrigo Lopez said the shooting made no sense. “My son lost his life. He’s not alive any more just because of the mistake of somebody.” The replica gun had belonged to a friend, he said.

The sheriff’s office said a plastic handgun had also been found in the boy’s waistband.
Witness Brian Zastrow told the Santa Rosa Press Democrat he heard seven shots.
“First, I heard a single siren and within seconds I heard seven shots go off, sounded like a nail gun,” he said.
One man who saw the events unfold said the shooting was over in an instant.
“He pulled over to the kid walking and he just opened the door and shot him, three shots,”.

Prove Legal Marriage, Ojukwu's Family Tells Bianca

From Thenationonlineng.net
As the tussle for the ownership of Ojukwu Transport Limited (OTL) and Ojukwu Estate rages, some members of the Ojukwu family have asked Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu to show proof of legal marriage to the late Biafran warlord, Emeka Odimegwu-Ojukwu.

The Ojukwu brothers and OTL, in a 19 paragraph statement of defence filed before Justice Funmilayo Atilade of a Lagos High
Court, also demanded proof of the paternity of Bianca’s two sons, Afamefuna and Nwachukwu. Bianca had, on behalf of her sons, sued Prof. Joseph Ojukwu, Emmanuel Ojukwu, Lotanna Putalora Ojukwu, Dr Patrick Ojukwu, Edward Ojukwu, Lota Akajiora Ojukwu and Mrs Massey Udegbe, seeking a declaration that her children were entitled to 29, Oyinkan Abayomi Street, Ikoyi, until the harmonisation of the management and administration of the assets of OTL.

Bianca’s lawyer Chris Ezugwu prayed the court to declare as illegal the threat of forceful ejection of her sons from the property.
But, the defendants, through their lawyer, George Uwechue (SAN) said the subscribers of the Memorandum of Association of OTL (1st
defendant) at incorporation in 1952 were L.P Ojukwu and Betram Chukwuemeka Obi, adding that the late Odimegwu-Ojukwu and Prof Joseph Ojukwu (2nd defendant) were later appointed as directors in 1953. They said the late Odimegwu-Ojukwu ceased to be a director of the company prior to the civil war and was reappointed a director on December 16, 2005.

The defendants said: “The property belong to the first defendant (OTL). The fact is that the claimants’ mother, being greedy, felt she
could hold onto the first defendant’s property. For over 12 years prior to his death, the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu
moved to Enugu and since then had not lived at the first defendant’s property as alleged by the claimants.”
